Loy Yang Power Station and Mine
Silcar provided mechanical and electrical maintenance services along with major outage execution services for the 2,500 megawatt brown coal fired Loy Yang Power Station form July 2002 to June 2010.
The Portland Aluminium Smelter is located next to the Victorian coastal town of Portland (443 Kms west of Melbourne). The Smelter was commissioned in 1986 and has 2 Pot Lines with a total of 408 pots. The Portland Aluminium facility was recognised as one of the most productive and energy efficient Smelters for its time. The Smelter is jointly owned by three companies including Alcoa, who is also the operator. The Smelter produces approximately 30% of Australia’s total aluminium production.

Silcar provided a comprehensive 24 hr. / 365 day maintenance service which included the provision of all maintenance management, supervision, and direct labour and maintenance methods. Silcar developed, amended and managed maintenance plans, strategies, the 3 year horizon asset management plan and the operation’s maintenance budget. The Burnie Silcar operation also provided and developed information technology systems as the manager of the CMMS (OCS, Today).
Silcar provided maintenance services along with major outage execution services for the Wesley Vale pulp and paper mill in Tasmania, Australia from 1993 to 2010.
Silcar's relationship with BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA), commenced at the Gregory/Crinum mine in 1998, followed by the Blackwater mine in 2001. Silcar started as one of the many labour hire contractors at both mines. Gregory and Blackwater mines are located in central Queensland.
