Inter-Exchange Backhaul Network

 


The IEN scope of works includes the design and construction of IEN or backhaul fibre cable routes in metropolitan and country areas of VIC/NSW/QLD.  The scope also includes providing significant Customer Access Network (CAN) fibre and Transport fibre cables.  The works include:


Route appraisal, route selection, and design of external and internal work components

Rodding, roping and hauling fibre cables in vacant and occupied ducts between exchanges (typically 4km to 20km routes)

Trenching and direct buried fibre cable

Ploughing of cables in country and remote areas (typically 20km to 200km routes)

Duct installation by trenching and boring

Manhole and pit installation

Underwater fibre cable installation (typically 300m to 5,000m routes)

Splicing, testing, and commissioning

Exchange infrastructure installation (suites, ironwork, lighting, racks, sub-racks, etc).


To date Silcar has installed over 4,500 sheath km of fibre cable on these projects.
