Customer Wideband Services
The wideband scope of works includes the provision of high speed data services (2Mbit/s and above) to Telstra’s wholesale, business and corporate customers. These data services include ISDN, ethernet, DDN and wholesale transmission. To deliver these services we need to design and construct:
Copper transmission paths
New optic fibre cable hauling
Enterprise optic fibre ploughs, generally for mining and energy companies with the largest project for example, requiring 90km of plough with roughly 30km of rock sawing on the Nullarbor to Iluka’s Jacinthe mine
New pit and pipe construction to support new cables
Optical transmission equipment, predominantly Ericsson OMS840 and OMS16xx
Cisco switches
Optical Media Converters
Network Terminating Units
Small rectifier systems.
All service orders must be delivered within strict contractual timeframes depending on the type of work involved. For example, for an order that requires a new transmission system, up to 500m of new optic fibre cable and splicing, Silcar must contact the customer, complete a full site assessment, complete design for both optic fibre and transmission, issue Land Access notices, haul and splice the fibres, install transmission equipment at the customer and exchange end and commission the data service within a matter of weeks.
